Prepare a Way
I wrote this poem to go along with my church's service. It's called "Prepare a Way." My church is a bilingual church, and so the video is spoken in English with subtitles in Spanish. I've also included the English words to the poem below the video. Enjoy!
Transcript:
I told you to watch for my return and I see you watching.
You watch as the world
disguise their fear with hate and power.
You watch as the world
become lovers of themselves,
unforgiving and without love for others.
You watch and you cower
as the world, so proud and boastful
act rashly,
abuse the weak,
increase in lawlessness,
and murder their brother.
You watch, afraid and ask,
"Where is God? Does He see the injustice?
Does he see the wars increase,
the plague and pestilence abound,
the earth quake,
the oppressors take
and the calamity all around?
Where is God and why doesn't He
save us from this place?
And I answer,
"I told you to watch and I see you watching.
Yes, I know the signs you see
for I warned you of them myself.
But, my child, I
am watching too.
I am watching for a people
who are committed to me,
a people who in their waiting
will encourage one another
edify their brother
and be at peace among themselves
in the midst of this calamity.
I am watching for a people
who will warn the unruly,
comfort the fainthearted,
uphold the weak,
and be patient with all.
A people who will pursue good,
rejoice always, give thanks,
and pray without ceasing.
My eyes roam the whole earth,
and yes, I see what you see.
But I want to return for a people
who will test all things,
hold fast to what is good,
abstain from all evil,
open up their hearts
and prepare a way for my Spirit to do His work.
Open up your hearts
and prepare a way for my Spirit to do His work.
Open up your heart
and prepare a way for my Spirit to do His work.
