Who Are You to Dream Such a Dream?

God's Dream of Restoration

That “thing,” that idea you’ve had stuck in your mind? The one you “think” might be God, but maybe it seems just a little too crazy, a little too far-fetched to you? You know the thing. The one you can’t shake. Ever thought maybe you can’t shake it simply because God put it there?

Measure it.

Stand it up next to God’s word, and see if it stands the test. Does it, in some way, go along with God’s hope for the world—that all would come to know Christ? Does it, in some way, go along with God’s commandment to love others? To serve others? When you pray about it, do you get a little fluttering in your soul? I think of that flutter as hope. The spirit in you flutters when she gets hopeful.

Do you even know who you are?

I believe we can know ourselves to an extent, but I also believe we are continually learning about ourselves, and at the same time, with the help of God, we can shape who we become. It may be that the idea, the thought inside of you does not match who you currently are. And so, when you think about it, you wonder how in the world you would ever be able to do it.

Maybe that is part of what is holding you back.

But if that thing in you is from God, then you ARE the person who is to carry it out. You may not have the evidence of that person in your personal history, but you ARE that person. I bet if you dig deep, there is a small part of you that believes the dream you have in mind really IS a dream that is meant for a person like you. And not just a person LIKE you, but you.

Individually and completely you.

Even if you don’t think that, know this:

God did not make a mistake by giving you your dream. He knows who you are better than you know yourself!

O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether (Psalm 139: 1-4).

God did not make a mistake by giving you your dream, for He says about His people:

I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

God did not make a mistake by giving you your dream, for He, Jesus, even told you,

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father (John 14:12).

So who are you to dream such a dream? If you are a child of God with a dream to grow/help/nurture/encourage/love/serve/prepare people in some way, then you are exactly the RIGHT person!

Let’s keep going—I’m just getting started!
